The Ethos team is privileged to be able to work with amazing organisations like Yalari to offer orthodontic care to those in need.
What is Yalari?
Since 2005, Yalari has been providing Indigenous children from regional and remote communities across Australia the opportunity to receive a full boarding school scholarship for their entire secondary education. By 2023, the foundation had over 249 students on Yalari scholarships around Australia, and an alumni group of over 480 studying at universities, working, or undertaking further training.
How did Ethos get involved?
Our very own Dr Kent Farmer is a proud member of Yalari’s community of dentists, orthodontists, oral surgeons, and anaesthetists helping students across Australia. “Yalari struck a chord with me the first time I heard of their work,” Dr Farmer said. “Having grown up in North Queensland and, later, being the dentist in charge at Mt Isa Hospital, I have a very good understanding of the problems accessing dental health services in general and orthodontics in particular.”
Ethos provides Yalari students with full fixed appliances to correct malocclusion and address aesthetic issues at no cost. Noami is one of these students, who began her braces journey with Ethos in August 2021 and had them off by the end of her 11th school year, just in time for her school formal and graduation!
“I couldn’t believe the difference in my smile before and after I had braces,” Noami said. “I just couldn’t stop smiling after Dr Farmer had removed them.”
Being able to provide these treatments at no cost is a privilege for Ethos, and it is so rewarding to witness the amazing transformation in confidence and health for young people like Noami who might otherwise not have access to orthodontics.
